It buckled. Its spine snapped and reshaped, its limbs elongating with the sound of dry wood splintering. "Silas!" I screamed. My grandfather stood his ground. He reached into his satchel and threw a handful of salt, but the creature didn't recoil. It inhaled. The salt hung in the air for a second before being sucked into the thing’s lipless mouth.
