Before there were doors between worlds, there were stories. They whispered from hearth to hearth and ship to ship— of wolves that ran like midnight wind, of foxes with nine tails and nine more tricks beyond that, of fae who looked like carved moonlight and smiled like knives. Humans loved those stories—as long as they stayed in books and bedtime. The moment a story breathed, the moment a pair of eyes glinted from a tree line or a shadow stepped out of the corner of a room, humans did what humans do best when they’re afraid.

I hoped the walls were soundproof, as I didn’t want to overhear any funny business between Silas and his girlfriend. Climbing onto my bed, I reached for my bedside drawer, pulling out a large book with thick pages and a brown cover. It was a book on vampire origins, and basically everything one needed to know about them. Bill had gifted it to my mom as a moving-in present, thinking she might need it living with two vampires under the same roof. If only he knew Mom didn’t read books. Even when I was a kid, she’d make up my bedtime stories on the spot. She found it funny to tell me horror stories before bed.

I pulled it from the shelf and sat down at the table, flipping it open. The first few pages were filled with the usual stuff—founding dates, town milestones, and the kind of folklore that every small town seemed to have. But as I read further, the stories grew darker. Mentions of strange disappearances, shadowy figures in the woods, and whispers of creatures that hunted under the full moon. Wolves. My breath caught in my throat as I skimmed over the passages. It wasn’t just talk of wild animals. There were stories—centuries old—of people who could shift into wolves. People who lived among the townsfolk by day but became something else under the cover of darkness.

By the time we get home, my nerves are still buzzing from the spark in the truck and the shadow in the woods. I don’t tell Noah or Emily what I saw. Not yet. I need to be sure. I need to understand it first. And I need to work. Because tomorrow is Halloween. My birthday. The full moon. And the night everything changes. I head straight for the dining room table where Liam has left out the spellbooks we’ve been studying. Tracking spells. Bloodline magic. Wards. Anything that might help us find my mother and Drake.

It was too quiet, eerily quiet. Dolores decided to walk forward, after wandering for a while, she finally saw...a book. As soon as Dolores got close to the unusual book in the middle of the white room, she was sucked in. As if watching a document, Dolores felt her eyes going through a novel called, "Saving my moonlight in the haunted mansion". Sadie Laurent was going through her late grandfather's stuff when she found an old key. Sadie being a curious cat spirit, kept pestering her parents to know where this place was, but her parents kept avoiding answering. At last, Sadie pestered the old granny of her house.

His mother half yelled. Xan hunny.. food is ready. Lexa yelled. Okay Mom.. I'll be down there very soon. Roxanne half yelled too. God! This horror book wasn't horrific at all. It was enticing..she wanted nothing except the book. She was already in the Fourth chapter, the chapter was all about humans transforming into wolves during every full moon. There was a small note saying; _I *wrote this book_ _because I want_ _every other teenager_ _out there, who has been_ _given the gift to transform_ _every full moon to be Happy_ _about their gift._

I admired some of the old classics and new books as my eyes wandered over every title. I had gathered a stack of books in my hand, picking ones I wanted to read and taking them out. So far, I had five books that I found would pique my interest such as Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice and the Maze Runner. All of these books were human and I admired the wide selection of books that this room had. I tried to find one that was all about werewolves like the library back at my pack had and only seemed to find one that was labelled 'As Old As Time Will Tell' written by none other than one of the eldest werewolf alive which was 'Herbert Vanderlin'. In the blurb, it states his life as an old

She raised her hand and with her index finger she brushed the books, reading their titles. There were some that said "satanic pacts" others like "the call of the devil" "the forest and its hidden side" "small town legends" "werewolves and the full moon" and the last one said "Wisconsin Cases". Camila took out that last one, the book was big, it had a red cover with the image of the town itself. But that image was in black and white, as if it was taken years ago.
