I realized that he wore an eye patch over the other one hidden behind his bangs. "What," I mumbled sourly and he said shhh and waved me to follow him. I looked up at Mystrel and he was snoring softly. I thought that I was going to regret this but nudged myself out of his embrace and threw on my clothes quickly and watched Ash jump up onto the trees. He hung from a branch and offered me a hand. I smiled and shook my head and leaped up onto the branches and ran across it with ease. Ash grinned slightly and nodded, impressed with my tree climbing knowledge. I watched him climb further up and jumped after him.

Jayden and I watched him climb the tree like a very annoyed cat while we laughed. When he finally managed to grab one of the glowing lights and drop back down beside us he tossed it onto the blanket. Pain jolted up my spine as I felt spines digging into my skin from the rope. “Avery,” a voice whispered in my ears and it scared every part of my body like a ghost. I stiffened and looked up at the tree which was holding me captive with its branches. My breath caught in my throat and my face paled when I saw bodies hanging from the branch. They had a rope like the one which held my ankle and wrist wrapped on their neck. I could see their bodies dangling as they hung from the branch and each one of them looked dead. I couldn’t breathe on witnessing the sight.
