“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Confetti cannons went off, raining colored paper down on me! The entire lobby was packed with every single one of my employees, beaming and clapping. Streamers and massive ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLISON!’ banners hung from the ceiling and a gigantic cake... chocolate, my favorite... sat on a decorated table. I just stood there, frozen with my hand still on the door handle. My birthday! I’d completely forgotten! I turned to look at Jacob who was standing just behind me with a ridiculously proud smirk on his face.
