Harry Potter Builds A Fortress Fanfiction Novels & Stories

H U N T E R J O N E S I was reading the second Harry Potter book while leaning against the wall in the alley with Ty on my side. I knew Mey had asked me to read the Goblet of Fire to figure out the three unforgivable curses, but after picking the book randomly, I felt that I owed it to the author to read it from the first book. So I had picked up Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone from the library yesterday, finished the book in seven hours, and had it returned this morning. When I had returned the first one, I immediately borrowed the second one: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which was the book I was reading right now.

I’m prepared to settle in for a while to watch some kids show but it ends not long after we find our seats. “So, we’ve watched cartoons. You know what that means…” Harry trails off, pure delight on his face. Oh I am not sure I want to hear the answer to this. He makes eye contact with me briefly and I am all but certain he is about to spout out some come on or innuendo and embarrass me further. “What?” I ask warily. “It’s time to build a FORT!” He declares, jumping to his feet and letting go of me at last. I feel suddenly cold without him beside me. Wait, did he say build a fort?

Orion snorted, sending a spray of toothpaste into his beard. "Harriet, what kind of half-baked remark was that?" I shot her a dirty look. Harriet was losing her touch, if that's all she could come up with as an amusing comment. "You know, in Harry Potter, Harry could hear the snake moving around in the pipes." Harriet shook her head as she crossed her arms defensively. "I could hear you through the pipes. You guys were so loud I couldn't hear the echo of my own moans." I hopped to my feet and waddled over to the couch. I placed the back of my hand on Harriet's forehead. "No, you don't have a fever. Harriet, honey, I think that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard you say."

She darted her eyes from the picture in the locket, and at me before handing the locket back to me. “I found it!” Cassio exclaimed, raising the fork whose handle was decked with diamonds. “Good.” Ivana commented as we walked out from where we stood, “Now let’s head for the training ground. When I’m done with the fortification, the spell can be performed with the fork.” We arrived at a long, fenced building built with stones. Some things were carved on the walls of the fence, which looked like drawings of wolves. We got to the door which had a circle carved on it with different weird patterns.

Three days later, the sun rose over a different world. The fortress of Kharos was being rebuilt, not with stone alone, but with the combined magic of the Silver and Moon Shadow packs. The atmosphere was no longer one of suspicion or the heavy, suffocating scent of fear; it was one of frantic, hopeful industry. Wolves who had been enemies a week ago now hauled timber together, their shared sweat and labor washing away the bitter remnants of the old regime.

Lyssa led us on a path that was clearly not the main road, something that twisted through the hills and made it harder for the creatures to predict where we were going. By the time we reached the fortress, I was exhausted beyond measure. But the fortress was real. We could see it now, nestled in a valley, and it was being actively occupied. We could see structures being built around it, buildings that definitely weren't human design. And we could see creatures moving around the compound, maybe twenty or thirty of them, going about tasks that I couldn't quite understand. "They're building something," Solace said, echoing my thoughts. "Some kind of... tower?"

It was an impressive structure. “How do we get in?” I whispered to the others. “Through the front door, of course, “ Thomas said. “No… really?" “Do you have any other ideas?” Thomas snapped. “Well, no,” I stuttered. “You know,” Aryk quipped, “you do have two sorcerers in this group…” “What’s your plan then?” Rose asked. About an hour later, we were sneaking into the fortress through the front door under an invisibility spell. “What now?” Rose whispered.

“Don’t push your luck.” But two days later, she heard it—soft and distant, a bell tower from the chapel he’d quietly refurbished at the far edge of the property. Wren’s eyes went wide at the sound, and she ran to the window, pressing her palms against the glass. “Mama! Listen!” Liora did. And for the first time, the fortress felt like it might one day grow roots into something more. Varian, standing just beyond the doorway, said nothing. But the way his gaze softened when Wren mimicked the tolling with her hands—ding, dong, ding—was answer enough.
