I've stumbled across a few fanfics where the Horcrux—or the ‘wraith’ as you call it—lingers more as a disembodied memory or a curse imprint rather than a full resurrection. There's this one story where Harry finds Tom Riddle's diary wasn't the only thing that left a piece behind; the shade from the locket starts whispering to him during Occlumency lessons with Snape. It's less about big confrontations and more about this corrosive, psychological presence that bleeds into his daily life at Hogwarts.
Another scene that comes to mind is from a ‘Eighth-Year’ fic where the wraith isn't in Harry at all, but is sort of anchored to the ruins of the Gaunt shack. Hermione, trying to research residual dark magic, accidentally triggers a manifestation. It doesn't speak, just watches, and it's described through these cold, sensory details—a smell of damp earth and decay, a pressure in the air. The horror there is really understated but it stuck with me.
The concept gets flipped in some ‘Voldemort Wins’ AUs too. If the wraith survived the final battle but is too weak to regain a body, it might haunt the Malfoy manor as a semi-aware, malicious force. I read one where Draco is the one who has to live with it, and it's constantly trying to manipulate him into finding a way to bring it back, playing on his family's guilt and fear. Those stories often use the wraith as a tool to explore characters who weren't in the spotlight much in the original series.
