My heartbeat pounded in my ears so loudly that it drowned out the footsteps behind me. The moment I reached the landing, every person on the second floor stiffened. The air felt heavier, thicker, as if even the castle had stopped breathing. I did not speak to them. My eyes went straight to the shimmering barrier coating the stairway to the third floor. A wall of distorted air, sparkling faintly. 'Place your hand on the barrier,' Kyrex said in a steady voice. I stepped forward, ignoring Rowan’s uneasy expression, and pressed my palm to the magic.

My hands slowly dropped to my sides, eyes were still big and wide. "Wha-what did you say?" Harry looked down to his shoes, his hands inside the pockets of his coat. "You've got to be kidding me," I whispered to myself as I backed myself away from him. Shoving my phone back to the pocket of my jeggings, I walked past him.

Next, Harry saw him make for the bathroom with the towel still strapped around his neck. The girls stared at Andy as he moved, then at Harry who was already on his fifth round. "Hey there!" Harry called out, "would you like to join me?" They raised to their feet, packed their backpacks, looked at Harry, smiled and frowned at the same time, then walked out. Harry's mouth fell ajar. "What the heck do you call that?" he muttered to himself.

They froze for a moment, but after realizing it was just a simple communication spell, they burst into laughter. "Fool! Only now did you think to call for help?" With that, Caspian rushed toward me with the other two close behind. However, before I could defend myself, a figure quickly arrived and shielded me from behind.

I ignored him, gulping down another bottle of malt. I was about to start talking about Franklin when Zion was looking behind me. It was as if someone was standing behind me. Almost immediately, I could feel someone hovering. I turned back hurriedly to see Alpha Harry. “Follow me now.” He ordered. Let's get this over with already.

He slid a look at Cameron’s dad, impressed. “Oh dear,” Aislen smirked. “That looks like it hurt.” “Takes a big man to beat another in chains,” August sneered. “Well,” Connery stepped back. “I will leave you to it. If you care to stop back by Meguitte once you are done here and donate some blood, that would be appreciated,” he said to Harry. “We’re going to need a lot of it to perfect this spell.” He turned and strolled away.
