The shock wave hurled me to the ground, causing the world to spin for a moment. I sat up and saw black smoke emitting into the air. Getting on my feet again, I saw two other hunters appeared. They drew out their shining hatchets and curved blades from their backs. One of them threw a hatchet at me. I did a back-flip, missing the weapon barely an inch. The other lunged forward, but I welcomed him with a kick to the chest. He went airborne and broke through a window shop.

Teeth closed in on my neck, and I braced myself for the end. It didn’t come. The weight disappeared in an instant, and I rolled onto my back, gasping. Riley stood there, half-shifted. His claws glinted in the rain, his eyes glowing feral. “Run,” he said, his voice guttural, barely human. I didn’t think. I grabbed Scout, cradling his limp body as I stumbled toward the truck. Pain seared through my side, but I kept going, my breath ragged.

I shift my gaze to Gianni and wink at him as I pretend to be texting on my phone. When the first explosion goes off. We all stand and look out of the window. The network howled as seven billion human souls pushed back, refusing to be swallowed by Hecate’s single mind. Hecate clutched her head, her silk dress ripping. The pain hit her so hard she staggered. "Stop! It’s too much! Their lives—the noise—it's too loud!" "Now, Raven!" June shouted. With the barrier gone, Raven’s knife flashed. She drove it into Hecate’s shoulder. Hecate screamed—a raw, human sound, terrified and in agony.

"Get the gurney! Now! He’s got silver-rot creeping into the thoracic cavity!" Joshua’s voice cracked across the manicured lawns of the Harrington Estate like a gunshot. He didn't wait for the rotors of the helicopter to stop spinning. He kicked the door open, the harness of the travois still gripped in his bloodied fist. He hauled Richard’s dead weight onto the skids, his boots skidding on the expensive gravel. "Richard! Oh my god, Richard!"

They were going to take revenge on their mother. “Are you guys ready?” Henry asked as he looked at his siblings. “I am more than ready, let’s go teach those vile people a lesson!” Harrison replied as he crossed his arms. Harper was seen clenching his fist and he nodded as well. “Later on, there won’t be any need for us to be so polite to them. These people don’t deserve our politeness.” Harper reminded them. Hazel smiled upon hearing her brother’s advice.
