Hunting Their Enemies

Hunting Their Enemies

I swung myself up on the last branch, freezing, before I pulled myself the rest of the way up on it. Scarlett’s journal lay perfectly hidden from the ground between two smaller branches. I carefully picked it up as I settled back against the trunk. I tapped my finger on the cover, debating if I wanted to read it, thus intruding even deeper into her privacy. I knew I shouldn’t, but I needed to know if I was alone in how I felt. I licked my lips as I opened the journal. I spent about an hour scanning the diary, only stopping to thoroughly read the entries where I was mentioned. I slowed when I came to one that was written about two weeks after I left.

Teeth closed in on my neck, and I braced myself for the end. It didn’t come. The weight disappeared in an instant, and I rolled onto my back, gasping. Riley stood there, half-shifted. His claws glinted in the rain, his eyes glowing feral. “Run,” he said, his voice guttural, barely human. I didn’t think. I grabbed Scout, cradling his limp body as I stumbled toward the truck. Pain seared through my side, but I kept going, my breath ragged.

The Hunt

The Hunt

Read to find out! The Hunt was my first full novel, and my first attempt writing something longer than a few hundred words, so your feedback is invaluable. I would love to know what you thought and where things can be improved! This is my second draft - the first draft only had 120K words but there were so many more details I wanted to share. I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Stay safe! Much love - Michelle

A insanely unique and interesting premise executed very well! I love Kate's character and the inner battle she has in regards to the Hunt. I also love how the differences between twins Izzy and Kate are concise and clear. The dialogue is realistic and girls are fun and likable! Great job!

Werewolf romance was not really my taste but this one is interesting. Not only did it mention about the most talked about alphas but it tackled the other positions such as those who protect the pack during travel. It's new knowledge for me so I very much like it. Plus, the hunt is surely exciting.

he hissed. I shook my head in disapproval. "Let me go, you bastard!" I cried. Meanwhile I was struggling beneath him. I was twisting and fighting. But, again, it was useless. He was too strong. The metal of the chains clicked shut around my left wrist and then my right. Panic flooded my system. "Stop!" I tried to pull against the chains. Nothing worked. Tears began to burn my eyes. "Let me go!" He came closer. I was quick to drive my left knee right up into his ribs as hard as I could.

A Honeyed Tragedy

A Honeyed Tragedy

"Aren't you worried your brother might go to jail? I haven't given you the settlement agreement." "Taking that many lives is a capital crime. My brother was just a tool. I don't really care whether he lives or dies." Daniel stared at Chloe in disbelief, finally realizing how terrifying she was. I turned off the recorder on my phone. Watching the two of them tear each other apart was almost entertaining.

First one way, then the other. One…Two…Three. The stranger drew a small hatchet from his waist band and brandished it over his head. Perfect. There was a universal gasp throughout the alehouse. All knew what was to come. Savage caught his wrist and stepped under his arm. Moving next to him as he brought the hatchet inward and down. So, the man’s own blade pierced down the center of his stomach. He squealed in objection. Flailing and trying to fight.

She murmured. Then the gangsters didn’t stop there, they even wanted to rob her. They approached her and then looked at her drunken face. “Hey, where’s your wallet or phone? Just give that to us.” That someone said. Maddie shook her head. “No! I won’t give it to you!” She then tried to stand up but she fell to the ground. She gasped and wanted to run away from the thugs. “This girl, we will just kidnap you so that we’ll get a reward from your billionaire parents or manager!” The second guy proposed. The first guy agreed. They were about to grab Maddie from behind but someone kicked their backs. “Ack!” They both gaped.

A Goddess Gifted by Fate

The time is now. An array of tools hung from hooks on the wall to my right. I scanned the items slowly, a few rakes, a pickaxe, a couple of crowbars, and some axes. My eyes landed on a hatchet, the blade glinting from the dim light on the roof. It's no Sai blade, but it’ll still get the job done. I took the axe from the hook and tossed it up in front of me. The handle spun in a full three-sixty before landing in my hand again. I sucked my teeth and nodded my head with a newfound sense of determination. Clutching the bloodied pole in one hand and the hatchet in the other, I rolled my shoulders back and sauntered out of the shed.

Or run? Then Jake remembered Survival Rule #4. [In this world, even common monsters are tough. But every kill drops rich rewards.] With that thought, Jake gritted his teeth and reached for his waist. The hatchet-gun was tucked there—the weapon he'd traded Universal Fuel for earlier. [Name: Hatchet-Gun] [Type: Weapon] [Quality: Common] [Ammo: 3/9] [Description: Melee slashing or ranged shooting. Downside: Massive recoil.] Jake gripped the hatchet-gun's handle. The cold metal against his palm steadied him somewhat.

The Bite That Changed Everything

The Bite That Changed Everything

With Julian’s arm wrapped around me, we walked away, leaving Greg standing there alone, watching as blood dripped from his hand onto the ground, blooming into vivid red stains. His cries and his pain could no longer make me look back because I had found my happiness. The person who was willing to give me both respect and devotion was right beside me.

Frequently Asked Questions

I was trying to find a summary for my kid's school project and came across one that spoiled the ending right in the first line. Honestly, it depends completely on where you look. Some summaries are super careful, just saying Brian learns to survive and is rescued, which doesn't give away the climax with the plane or the moose attack. Others, especially study guide sites aimed at students who need to write essays, will just lay out the whole final act, including the exact moment of rescue and what the pilot says.

If you're trying to avoid spoilers, I'd say avoid anything labeled 'plot summary' or 'synopsis' on sites like SparkNotes or CliffsNotes. Those are meant for analysis after reading. A 'short summary' on a library or bookstore page is usually safer. But it's a total gamble. I learned my lesson the hard way—now I just read the book jacket and nothing else.
