“Daxxxxxxxxx!” I jolted awake after that, breathing hard while my endure body still shook like I was still in that cursed dream. My entire face flushed red as I tried hard to slow my breathing, feeling like such a fool for having such a dream. It’s been years since I last had those kinds of dreams and I believed I had fully gotten past them, until now.

It was calming, the only thing anchoring her to the present after the nightmare's chaos. Cassian kissed the top of her head, his brows furrowed with concern. "What was it? Tell me, what did you dream about?" he asked gently, his fingers still running through her hair. Hailey shook her head against his chest, still shaken but unwilling to relive the horror. "It was just a dream," she whispered again, her voice still weak but a little more steady this time. "Nothing... it's nothing." He frowned, not entirely convinced, but didn't push. He held her even tighter as if by doing so, he could shield her from whatever haunted her mind.

She couldn't remember why she had gone to bed so early, but she felt exhausted. As she lay there, she tried to recall her dreams, a dream with no sun and moon, just blackness and silence. A dream where she always heard a noise. A scream in the distance and laughter in her ears – that made her want to run, flee to escape the horrors that lay beyond. A dream where there are demons that chased after her. A dream where she was drinking blood and eating raw meat. The same dream that she is watching again and again. But they were hazy and fragmented. She couldn't make sense of them.
