I pressed my forehead against the cold wood of the door, my palms flat against it as I hit against it. “Please, Nash! I can’t breathe!” Memories of the orphanage came crashing like a cruel reminder. A memory Isaac had taken away with his warmth now came crashing down leaving me hopeless as I shook, I could hear the sound of the older girls laughing as they shoved me inside a storage room while they laughed and called me names. I could feel the cold and the hunger I felt when no one came for days. Would Nash do the same to me? Leave me out here all for Hellen?

Unknown number. She hesitated before answering. “Hello?” A distorted voice came through the line. “Mrs. Cross. You don’t know me, but I know you. And I know what your husband is hiding.” Her pulse spiked. “Who is this?” “You’ll find the truth at the old Whitmore orphanage,” the voice said. “Midnight. Come alone.” Then the line went dead. She stared at the phone, heart racing, mind spinning. The orphanage. Her mother used to mention that place — the one on the hill outside the city, abandoned for decades. Why would someone send her there?

My eyes followed his tall frame as he left. “He sure is something,” Rhaeya commented and I laughed. Because yes, he honestly was. “We should get going now,” she reminded and we strode towards the door. My eyes raked the front of the Orphanage. It hadn't changed one bit. Still old, rundown and shabby looking. Even a stable looked better maintained. My memories traced back to when I was still here. They were the worst eighteen years of my life. The mansion looked old, colorless and out of life like a death invite. Amara gulped heavy. She is terrorized, is an understatement yet she was determined to save her boyfriend. I was abandoned as a baby at a very small orphanage, in the small town of River Stop. I was raised in the orphanage, and I guess in this small area not a whole lot of people want to adopt an orphan girl. So, I grew up with the ladies that ran the orphanage, Frances, the old, short and very plump mean and strict head master I guess we can call her, and Mary, who was soft, sweet, caring, and was the only person in my life that ever loved me!
