His grip tightened even more, fingers pressing into the vulnerable hollow of my throat with deliberate precision. A choked whimper escaped me as my legs kicked uselessly against the wardrobe, my heels drumming a pathetic, frantic rhythm against the wood. Black spots danced at the edges of my vision.
"But he's dead now, Ash!" The words came out in a desperate, high-pitched wail that didn't even sound like my own voice, it was the voice of someone unraveling, someone losing their grip on sanity. "He's gone! I can't hate a ghost! I can't hate him forever!"
