Easing himself back down by the fire, Hawk unwrapped the bandage and cleansed his wounded hand with Scotch and water. Carefully, he untied the leather pouch and won-dered curiously at the assortment of stoppered flasks that fell out. He picked up the poultice and laid it to the side, sorting through the rest. “What else did you find in it?” I hoped he would tell me something more about what he found, and why he read it, but he remained silent. He was looking away from me. “Come on Fenris. What did you find?” I repeated. “Nothing” “What do you know about the Rhavka pack” I pressed on. “I don't know anything other than what I told you”

I said, "True. We'll have to try it and see. Hopefully it will work." Just then, a hawk landed in front of me. I said, "Hey Blaze! How are you?" He shifted in front of me and said, "I'm doing well. I just wanted to let you know you have intruders that will be here in about four hours." I said, "Any idea if these hybrids can change to bats?" He said, "My hawks aren't reporting anything like that. We haven't been able to find out if wood kills them either." I said, "Well, guess we'll find out soon enough." I turned to King Fenris and said, "We need to get everyone together. We need to put our plan in place."

His bones would start to snap and reform, only to be forced back into human shape by the searing light. From the shadows of the pass, Fenris emerged. He was older than Marek, his hair a mane of white fur, his eyes a chilling, translucent blue. He didn't look like a King; he looked like a predator that had finally cornered its prey.
