"What is wrong with you?" Xavier demanded. His voice was a harsh, raspy whisper, filled with a dark, dangerous confusion. He was entirely unsettled. He was used to her melting under him, fighting him, or surrendering to him. He had never seen this cold, dead void in her eyes.
"Nothing," Hazel replied. Her voice was flat and perfectly steady. "I am just tired."
Xavier’s jaw locked. The muscle in his cheek twitched violently. "Do not give me that excuse. You are completely checked out. You are lying here like a corpse."
