I could feel the panic radiating off her, and my own heart began to race. “Selene, this isn’t what it looks like,” I said, stepping in front of Hayley. “Oh, please,” Selene scoffed, rolling her eyes. “It’s exactly what it looks like. Little Miss Outcast here thinks she can just walk away from all this without consequences?” Hayley flinched at the words, but I quickly turned to face Selene, anger surging through me. “This is none of your business, Selene.” “Oh, it’s absolutely my business,” she said, her voice cold. “You might be blind to it, but our family has a reputation to uphold. And you running off with *her*”—she gestured to Hayley with disdain—“will destroy everything.”

Even the carpets and various furniture Hael had were black. ‘Goddess, does he even have a personality?’ Lacey scoffed. ‘There’s no color, no anything in here.’ Across the room, a bookshelf caught my eye. It was stacked top to bottom with books, most of them old and without titles. I slid one from its spot, a thick text with navy blue binding etched in gold. The inside of the book read, ‘Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin.’ It wasn’t just the fact that Hael read books that made me pause, but the signed autograph on the inside cover.

I elected to curl up on the couch with one of the lycan books Blair sent with me. It was unusual to get a book from Blair that was not old, leather bound, and smelled of dust and aged paper. This one was the most interesting by far because it was a paperback that looked to be written within the past decade or so. It looked too… normal. It had a publishing date and everything.

"Oh, that's fuck up." She look at his wristwatch and let out a deep breath. "I need to go. You do your part, act as Hilary as you could." after he said that he disappeared. Why do I need to do this?
