The Swap
Hugo shouted.
He shoved Caleb hard. Off balance, Caleb tripped, his leg caught on something, and he fell. His head smacked the corner of the table with a sick crack, blood dripping down his face.
But instead of getting angry, Caleb dropped to his knees, begging.
"Hugo, don't be mad. It's my fault—I was wrong. How could Betty and I ever want to hurt you? You're my—"
He glanced at me, froze, and swallowed the rest of his words.
