SILENCE
without warning I explode into a fit of laughter at his terrified face, holding onto my stomach as to not fall over.
“I know what you meant, August. But just so you know, I had open-heart surgery, not a transplant....” I touch my palm to his cheek, our eyes meeting, “and I do, feel her. Because, although it was incomplete, it’s still the heart she gave me. Thank you.” Smiling up at him, I pull him into a tight hug before making our way down the hill to where the others waited.
“Everything alright?” Hughs asks, concern evident in his voice.
