Asher looked at them, then at the ravine behind him.
He smiled and spread his arms wide. “This might be the end of the road for me, Gideon,” he said, “but I’ve done my part. The seeds have been planted. And, unfortunately for you, the woman who you claimed to be your guiding angel is already gone, because she only sees a devil in you.”
I blinked at him. What was he saying? I tried to turn my head toward Avery, but everything was in slow motion.
