Did Derrick ever have a hope of winning her heart or would a dead man forever own it? He silently untied the sash binding their wrists together and this time it was he who turned away, putting his back to her. And again, sleep eluded him. He lay there, fighting his own demons while Sandra battled hers, just inches away and a world apart all at the same time. Sandra awakened the next morning feeling emotionally wrung out from her troubled, upsetting dreams. She automatically reached for him, needing the comfort he offered, a shelter from the emotional turmoil of her dreams.

CHAPTER ONE “I want you to search every nook and cranny of the mansion and capture everyone. Whoever resists, kill then!” Sandro commanded his men. A guy advanced toward him, knife aimed directly fir his throat. He stepped forward, grabbing the man’s hand. He twisted it until a crack sounded. The knife fell from the clutch of the man who wallowed in pain. Sandro dropped to the ground, grabbing the knife. Before the other man could process what was going on, the knife was embedded into his chest where his heart should rest.

But as I looked down at the sand, I saw something that made my blood run cold. The sand wasn't sand. It was finely ground paper, millions of tiny white shards. And as the wind blew, words began to form in the dunes, shifting and changing in the breeze. The survivors looked at the horizon, unaware that the beach was merely the margin of a larger page. I looked back at the way we had come. There was a single, massive door standing alone in the sand, its wood charred and broken. And hanging from the handle was the Critic’s iron key.

Footsteps on the sand. Someone was coming.

I mean I was literally in his room, with the hopes of something magical happening between us, but instead, I got my heart ripped out. I have no idea how I got home that night, but I couldn't stop thinking about his words and the pain in my chest never went away. It was like a permanent scare in my heart that refused to heal. Was that how much I liked Danzel? How does one even like someone that much in such a short period of time? “Hailey?” Sandy's voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I let out a long sigh. “I'll have to move on. There's nothing left for me to do.” I responded and Sandy's expression seemed to have saddened a bit.

, she said then hand him her calling card. A knocked on the door made their heads turn in its direction. “That must be my fetcher.” Hussain said, “Come in!” she lowly shouted. A man wearing a suit entered the room, he knew the man, it's Sin Sandridge. A well-known architect. “Good evening, Am I interrupting something?” the man said apologetically. He shook his head. “No, are you Sin Sandridge?” he can't help but to ask. “Oh, yes. I am. You know me?” Sin asked surprised.

Luckily he acted as fast as his instinct. Sandro still has the large knife in his left hand. When he got close to Cody he put Charles's heart on the ground and in Cody's perspective. "You want to live again! Huh! Think Twice ... I will not let you alive again... !" Said Sandro before dropping the knife over the beating heart. He split the heart in half, then without disgust or horror. He ate it. "This way ... you can't come back." Said Sandro, his mouth is full of blood.

Damn it! I lifted my head, smoothed my disheveled hair with my hands, started the car, and drove away. *** My phone kept ringing incessantly, but my heartbreak left me unable to answer. I arrived at my destination and stepped out of the vehicle. Despite the encroaching darkness and falling snow, I remained indifferent. I craved solitude, away from any disturbances. Fortunately, my GPS was turned off, ensuring my location remained a mystery. I located a parking area and disembarked. Before me stood a massive ebony edifice adorned with the phrase 'Pelican Club' illuminated in blue light.

The kind that came from somewhere deep and refused to stay buried. His grip tightened against the metal as his body shook slightly, breath uneven, broken…mucus dripping down his face as the cold breeze slapped him harshly. “…why?” he whispered, though there was no one there to answer. “You show up out of nowhere” he sniffled. “Come back, hold me, change me, use me and then leave?!” He let out a shaky laugh that didn’t sound like a laugh at all. “I hate you…” He said under his breath, but even he didn’t sound convinced.

I pulled out my SIM card, snapped it cleanly in two, and let it fall into the trash, severing the last thread. I boarded the plane and turned off my phone. As the plane rose into the sky, I looked down at the city beneath the clouds, watching the place that held all my pain slowly fade from view. Silently, I whispered farewell to the life I once knew. … Ryan held his phone, waiting for a reply that never came. The screen went dark, and he pressed it to wake it again. A restless irritation twisted inside him, sharper and more relentless than ever. He loosened his tie, trying to shake off the strange discomfort.
