I rolled over in annoyance, thinking that Horace had changed his mind and gone to her bed. Marina moaned loudly, like she'd never seen a man before. My roommate grumbled, "That's embarrassing. No class at all." I closed my eyes, then sat up, struck by a thought. The serpents might not know dragon customs, but I did. It was the first of the month, and Horace was supposed to be with his princess consort, not Marina. By now, he should be resting. Undoubtedly, another man was in her room. A chill ran through me. Marina was reckless, but this was madness.

But there was something about it, the warmth didn't quite reach her eye. “Aw, thank you, but you don't have to.” She raised her glass and clinked it with Draco’s and the witch's before they downed its content. “You're my dear sister and the princess of this pack. You deserve it, and I won't take no for an answer,” he insisted. They both seemed to have a cordial relationship, which had me wondering if she was in on any of Draco’s illicit practices. But if she’d been away for years, they wouldn’t have been in close contact.
