That was the last time I was going to ever see her again. We got back home and uncle Michael offered to make some coffee. “Hermione. What’s that on your neck?” Aunt Courtney questioned. I had completely forgotten about the necklace around my neck. “It was at home. It was mom’s.” I said, looking down at the inky black pendant. My fingers rubbed on the main piece of it. Aunt Courtney looked at the item a little more closely and something in her eyes changed. It was like she saw a ghost or something because the next minute she shrieked and yelled that I should take it off and get rid of it.

“I know, Alpha. Considering we don’t have a lead, this is our chance to prove his involvement. Still, a long way to go, knowing he has a lot of properties. But I have hopes. I’m assuming it’s a potion. “Drop the necklace in that for a minute.” I’m a little hesitant, but I decide to do as she asks. I drop the necklace in the potion and it makes an alarming sizzling noise. I watch curiously as the potion swirls around, the silver leaching from it and into the necklace until it is completely clear and just looks like water. Cam fishes the necklace out, dries it on a towel and hands it back to me. “There, it should be pretty near indestructible now. No need to worry about breaking it.” She says with satisfaction.

Nix loved that she could buy stuff for her daughter. “Do these up like mine, you can ship them to my father,” Nix told her with a smile. Nikki smiled, then measured Sage. As they worked, Nix looked around, and as she did, the sense of being watched came over her again. When she looked this time, she was sure she had seen a man looking at her. Nix looked into the glass case, seeing a beautiful necklace that she wanted to get. It was silver, with a dragon entwined with what looked like a tree. It was amazing when Nikki finished measuring Sage. Nix told her she wanted to buy the necklace and what looked like wooden rings, with a thread of silver in them. Like I'm not even in the room. My stomach churns with disgust. Veronikka pulls away from my father, her eyes scanning the room again. They land on my neck. On the gold necklace I'm wearing. The one that belonged to my mother. Her eyes widen. "Wow!" she exclaims, stepping closer. "That necklace! Is that... is that the gold pendant from the Queen of Iris pack? The largest pack in the north?" I instinctively clutch the pendant, my fingers curling around the warm metal. "Yes. It was my mother's."

I felt the presence of the Supreme Witch next to me before I felt her touch on my shoulder and heard her tight apprehensive voice. "There is no need for threats here. If you don't believe your former surrogate then believe the ancestral necklace on her neck." My grip on her shoulders slackened and my jaw nearly dropped as I noticed the hint of a gold necklace tucked into her blouse. "It can't be…" I muttered and I reached for the necklace pulling it out from where it was tucked into the neckline of her dress. I was shocked once more. It was truly the ancestral necklace that had always stayed on the neck of the Luna Queen anytime that I had visited court.
