I opened my mouth to speak, but the lump in my throat made it hard to push the words out. “Risk?” I finally managed to croak. “What risk?” Hazel’s expression darkened, a flicker of unease crossing her face. Her jaw clenched as though she wanted to say more but was stopping herself. For the first time, she looked… hesitant. Vulnerable, even. But it was gone in a blink, replaced by that same cold, distant demeanor. She shook her head sharply and took a step back. “You don’t need to worry about that,” she muttered, her tone clipped.

Nathan didn’t respond right away. That silence wasn’t confusion. It was understanding. And maybe fear. Because that meant the system wouldn’t stabilize into a single truth. "D-dude, I'm so sorry," he stammered, the words skipping from his tongue like a scratched record, hesitant and unsure. "I must have mistaken you for someone else," he finished saying, the sentence trailing off almost at a sigh over the acknowledgment of his mistake.

"Please don't go." He hesitated. Then he went.

Aiden's gaze lingered on my face for what felt like forever before his head gave a slight shake and a nod. His expression conveyed hesitation, but also understanding at the same time. “Where do you want to go?” he asked, his hands inside his pockets and a skeptical expression on his face. His gaze bore deep into mine, as if searching for an answer to the question.

Not to fight me—she wouldn’t dare. But she hesitated. One second. Two. “Fine,” she stammered, voice shaky. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

Hayden mumbled as if he wasn’t sure what he was thinking himself. That didn’t make it any easier for me in case he hasn’t realized it yet. Instead of rushing him, I decided to wait patiently for his answer. I wasn’t sure if Hayden was hesitating to say it or if he simply had not figured out what he wanted to do yet.
