my mate replies, “Especially if you got on his bad side, which wasn’t hard to do. It was rumored that he would kill a man for looking at him the wrong way. And he was so powerful that he always got away with it. Anyway, he had arranged for his daughter to marry the head of his rival pack, the Worthingtons, to consolidate their power.”
“I’m guessing that poor poet didn’t have a chance,” I reply, taking a sip of my cocktail, “And I’m guessing that isn’t the end of the story. Did she love the poet back?”
My husband pauses before an ornate bookcase tucked into the corner of the room. Golden scrolls adorn the top and sides, ending in a golden cascade of silver forged forget-me-nots.
He leans dow
