II. The Realm of Hunger The world on the other side was wrong. The sky was a swirling canvas of black ichor and crimson lightning. Mountains floated upside down, rivers ran like liquid shadows, and massive bones jutted from the ground like the ribs of a dead god.

The room was dimly lit, the heavy scent of cigar smoke curling through the air. Alessandro De Luca leaned back in his leather chair, swirling a glass of red wine. Across from him, Mateo Salazar stood with calculated ease, his sharp eyes betraying no emotion. “And what exactly does that mean?” I looked up at him. “It means the other half of the first realm. The one Mia corrupted. The one I sealed.” I swallowed. “That realm was only one side of the equation. A realm of shadow.” “And this?” Kael asked, voice a low whisper. I met his eyes. “This is the realm of memory.” We made camp near the ridge, though none of us really expected sleep. The air was strange, brittle, too still. Sound didn’t carry properly.
