The obsidian archway groaned, a dull green light flickering back to life across the stone.
"System error cleared," Zack called out, his voice strained as he forced himself to look away from my face. He grabbed the silver token and thrust it back into my hand, his fingers brushing against mine. He was cold as ice. "Mask 99... you are cleared for entry. Move along."
"Thank you for your service, Commander," I said softly.
I raised the silver filigree mask, letting the cold, diamond-cut metal settle against my skin. The world through the thin slits turned darker, sharper, and completely focused.
