“Is it true that they burn alive in the sun?” Kieran asks me quietly.
“Yes,” I say, hoping that Meadow really does know what she’s doing.
Just before his hand touches the light, Meadow stops, looking up at him. He hasn’t looked away from her.
“Here’s hoping,” she says to him.
“Here’s hoping,” he says, sliding his hand into the sunlight.
I hold my breath as we wait. And wait. And wait.
Asmodeus turns his head, staring at his hand in the sunlight. He turns it, opening his fist so his palm is facing upward, like he’s accepting the sun into his hand.
