When there’s finally a lull in drink orders, I walk over to Cassandra. “Hey, Cass, can I ask you something?” “Sure you can,” she says while wiping down the bar. “You love plants and gardening and all that jazz; could you tell me what flower this is?” I ask, pulling out my phone and showing her a picture of the flowers Jartre sent me. She glances at the picture and smiles, “Oh, those are beautiful! Those are called aster. Did someone give those to you?” “My boyfriend did,” I say, beam with pride, even though calling Jartre my boyfriend feels weird.

Just a minute ago I was about to pluck one barehanded. I had removed my gloves and mask to breathe, and from a distance this flower had captivated me, almost hypnotized me. Our fingers brushed for just a second, and I felt sparks dance along my skin. I held the flowers close to my chest, breathing in their soft, sweet scent. They were a messy mix — daisies, some little purple flowers I didn’t know the name of, and even one big yellow flower that had a bent stem. They weren’t perfect, but to me, they were the most beautiful thing I’d ever held. “No one’s ever picked flowers for me before,” I admitted, looking up at him through my lashes. He looked a little surprised at that. “Really?”

He knew what he was fucking doing. “I got this for you, honey. It's your favourite flower.” He said, referring to the flower that I was yet to take from him. I stared at the flower, contemplating on what to do. Should I take it from him?

The woman looked down at the flowers in her arms. “I’m sorry…” said Hazel ashamedly. “Mmm.” The woman walked straight out of the flower shop. After parking his car, Joshua walked into the shop and saw Hazel still selecting flowers. She walked up to him and said helplessly, “I don’t know what to buy, what kind of flowers does father like?” “Just buy this kind.” Joshua looked at the flowers in front of him. “Casa Blanca?” Hazel was surprised. “Mmm,” Joshua asked in surprise, “So you know it? It’s a kind of unusual lily, and a lot of people just think of it as a normal lily.”

I asked, my eyes staring at Rose as she danced over the floor. My hands clenching in fist everytime she took something off her body. She never went nude. But her in a bikini was enough to send me off.
