His obsession flared visibly—a subtle twitch in his jaw, the intensity of his gaze sharpening. He reached for one of the drives, but didn’t touch it. “These are mine,” he said, voice low, predatory. “Every secret, every file, every shadow of your past… mine.” “Yes,” I said, calm, steady. “Yours.” He stepped closer, circling slowly like a predator assessing prey. “Do you understand what obedience means, Jessy? That knowledge without permission is dangerous?”

I need a plan, and I need it fast. The days started to blur, and Dimitri doesn’t know what rest means or a break. “You know you can’t function on caffeine alone.” Eva put some light sandwiches in front of me. I waved at her, not able to take my eyes off the screen. “What are you doing?” she asked, sitting beside me. To disable the security system of the secret room, all you are bluntly hiding from me. I didn’t say that though; instead I just shrugged. “There is no need for you to wait on me,” I said without looking at her.

No matter how much I tossed and turned and cussed, my mind wouldn’t just shut off. With a frustrated sigh, I sat up and reached for the book on my nightstand—Death’s Obsession. A dark romance. I had picked it up a few days ago but hadn’t had time to start it. I'd heard from countless people how good a read it was, considering it was just a few hundred pages. Now seemed like a good time to read for myself. I curled up under my blanket and flipped to the first page. The story pulled me in instantly. A brutal, obsessive villain. A heroine caught in his twisted love. The tension, the darkness—it was exactly the kind of escape I needed.

And yet, there was something in me, something that had been building since that first night at the club, something that refused to be ignored. I sighed, gathering the documents into my bag again, double-checking everything. My hands shook slightly, a mixture of anticipation and fear, excitement and shame. I was supposed to be his secretary. Professional. Controlled. And yet… every time I thought about his gaze, his scent, the way he had looked at me that first morning, I could feel it, that pull I could never fight.
