Wrecking His Marriage (Short Story Collection)
He kisses me.
It’s not a question. It’s a reclaiming. His mouth crashes into mine, desperate and angry. He makes sure his tongue is shoved deep into my mouth, a conquering invasion. I taste the bitter tobacco, the smoky burn of the whiskey he didn’t drink, and underneath it, the faint, familiar coolness of mint. I don’t fight it. A broken sound tears from my throat, and I kiss him back just as fiercely, my fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. We’re both crying. I can feel the wet heat of his tears mixing with mine on our cheeks, taste the salt on his lips. The box falls from my hands, hitting the floor with a dull thud, forgotten.
