Historical Fiction Description Novels & Stories

For the first time in what felt like forever, the knot in my chest loosened completely. I pulled down a thick historical romance with a brooding duke on the cover, it was exactly the kind Mirabel would tease me about, and sank into one of the leather armchairs. The cushions hugged me perfectly. I kicked off my slippers, tucked my legs beneath me, and opened the book to the first page. The words pulled me in immediately. Rich descriptions, sharp dialogue, the slow burn of forbidden attraction between the heroine and the man who was supposed to be off-limits. I lost track of time, turning pages steadily, the outside world fading until there was only the story unfolding in my hands.

“But immediately you feel better, I’m taking you down here. What kind of books do you like? Fiction, non-fiction or historical?” “Any really, but mostly historical.” I replied in a more cherry voice. Her excitement is starting to rub off on me. “Ooohh, which books have you read? I bet you that I know.” “Lycan history mostly.” Her smile broadened. “I have just what you would love.”

Agnes had always wanted to live there but just didn’t have the motivation, or the permission for that matter, to renovate the property. As much as she adored her home there was always a nagging doubt that came to her mind when she was in the Historical Fiction section. There was an irony in that the errant thoughts that popped into her head were indeed history, but they were as far from fiction as you could get. Agnes paused for a moment and scratched her thin nose in an attempt to quell an itch that was threatening to build up in her nostrils. She used the time to suffocate ill thoughts of the past.

Some people just have the strangest combination of words. I yawned into my hand before taking out my paperback novel. Historical romance was my thing. I like to lose myself in the old words, petticoats, and lords that fell head over heels with the maid or the wallflower. I eyed the streets. Almost two stops from my destiny, but traffic had made my travel time longer. I texted the mom not to worry, that I was on my way and she called me right away.
