Connor glanced at me before looking back at Dr. Cornelia. “It will be,” he said, walking toward the doorway, but then he paused. “Ryan returned.”

Like an idiot I catch myself going by Maggie’s clinic and I go home to forget a little about this swirl of shit that’s on my mind. He turned the phone, the camera swinging around to a guy sitting on the edge of a bed, pulling on a shirt. "Hello, Danny?" the guy said. I froze. The voice. The jawline. The way his eyes looked like they were constantly calculating the price of everything in the room. It finally clicked. This was the guy from the club bathroom. The guy who had looked at me like I was gum on the bottom of his shoe while he screamed at Noah. "My name is Connor," he said, giving the camera a slow, knowing smirk.

AARON Connor didn’t raise his voice when the confirmation came. He didn’t need to. The room had already gone still—the kind of stillness that only happens when everyone present knows they’re standing on the edge of something irreversible. “It wasn’t Durrane,” Connor said, eyes fixed on the screen in front of him. “It was the other one. Connor soon came into sight with a serious expression. "He's two miles away," he stated as he pulled out a key from his pocket. "Who?" "Loren. Alpha fucking Loren," Connor said with spit as he unlocked the cell. Dad jumped to his feet, his face immediately turning to match Connor's, "What? How does he know?" "Nobody knows," Connor answered before unlocking the cell door. "He has 5000 men. They're readying the archers, cavalry and infantry as we speak but we aren't ready for him yet and we don't have enough time to get the defences up properly."

The game had finally ended, our team winning by two goals, one actual fist fight, and one broken Connor. I was able to convince Connor to let me drive him to the hospital, so I got a few of the soccer boys to carry him to my car. I let Ellie know I'd call her later then headed out. Connor and I drove in silence, except for him gasping in pain whenever we'd hit a hole in the road. Stupid town for causing more pain to this boy.
