I could feel something moving through me, an attraction that I hadn’t felt before. Sure, he was tall, dark, and handsome. His cheekbones were high and his body looked like something that had been molded by the gods. It didn’t explain why a part of me wanted to lay my head down against him. To rub my cheek against his scarred chest, press my lips against those four ragged lines. “I’m a dragon and I've claimed you as my mate.” I didn’t say anything to him, I didn’t know what that meant. A dragon, that I was his mate. How was I supposed to respond to that?

Better to be two parts sure than half-uncertain. It wasn’t long before the dragons descended. They were so close she could tell each of their scintillating colors, shades of green, red, yellow, and more. There were six of them large enough to take her breath away, and although none came close to the size of Shu-Amunet, they were still easily the size of Sa-Khente’s and Qinglong’s dragon forms if Anzi’s squinting guess was accurate. The rest were smaller, but at this distance, she couldn’t hazard a more precise guess as to their sizes. And they were still dangerous. One slip up, one wrong word…
