“You slept with her. You marked her—even if lightly. You tasted her blood. By every law of the moon, she should be dead. Yet she isn’t. And you think that means nothing?” My chest tightened—not with fear—but with something far worse. Hope. Hope was dangerous. Hope made people foolish. “Caleb,” I said quietly, “don’t bring her into this.” He took a breath. “But she’s already in it. She’s in you.” I looked away. Out the window. At the dark blur of the forest passing by. “She’s human,” I murmured. “Humans break. They shatter. They don’t survive our world.” “But she survived you,” Caleb insisted. “That means something.”

And he has disguised it as the ultimate rebellion. The irony is so profound it steals my breath. I think of my mother’s words: *A penniless poet? A boy who can offer you nothing?* And here he is, the penniless poet, offering me a kingdom. But that’s not why I’m here. I didn’t fall for a bank balance, disguised or otherwise. I fell for the man in the clay-spattered jeans who believes in beauty. The man who chose uncertainty over a gilded cage. Just like I did.

I had had enough. "Give me back my documents! I'll go to the next counter! Also, I'm going to file a complaint against you! For two straight days, you've failed to deposit a completely legitimate check with all the necessary supporting paperwork!" My voice drew the attention of other customers and the bank manager. Judith instantly turned her phone off and put on a pitiful, wronged expression. "Miss, I've already been trying my best to help you," she started. "I've explained that nonprofit accounts carry high risks and require extra detailed reviews. How can you blame me for that?"

The two of us had lost all hope of ever finding a happy ending such a long time ago. When we agreed to be the Witch Queen's mate some of that hope returned, as we had both thought that maybe if we put in an effort this time, we could actually be happy. I wasn't so sure about that anymore though, but he disagreed. He still believes that we can help her, or more that we were chosen to help her through this dark period in her life. Unfortunately we can't do anything if she won't let us though, which is what I have to keep reminding him. Regardless, she was our problem now, so we just had to figure out a way to live with her.

She was probably with a cute guy ogling at his baby blue eyes. I growled. Pathetic! Anything involving feelings was now pathetic. Those who had feelings were now pathetic. The whole world as far as I know was; pathetic. In a way, I was pathetic too since I missed Jack and all the stupid lovey-dovey pathetic memories we shared. I got up from the chair and stretched as far as my tired joints would let me. It was dark outside already and dressed like a sleepy bum would be the appropriate way to go to the store just across the street. My red hair was a tangled mess that completed the look.

I want what’s best for them, and I want them to have full and happy lives, even if that means being far away from me, but I still hope and pray that we’ll find a way to remain close no matter what the future holds. Today felt like another day of endless reading and pointless research. All the hours spent in the packhouse library were wearing me down, and a hopelessness that we’ll never figure this out was beginning to creep in. I’ve always been an optimist, but even an optimist can only take so much bad news and struggle.

She cried out as she can to let my ears be struck by her echoes. "Ms. Dandelion, it is my responsibility to save your friend from getting persecuted by uncertainty and misery!" I said and let go of my hand off her kindness. How sweet of her though and I do pity myself for refusing offers like that continuously. Grace doesn't have to do that, I came to implore for help and not take gratitude. The moon gave me a route to run away from the promise that might not be retained forever. Within the moonbow, I felt there was no hope of healing the shattered essence of an individual.

Jane “This is going to work, Jane.” Ethan promises. “We’re going to get to them first.” I’m having a hard time believing it. I want it to be true, but every near miss we experience sends me deeper and deeper into depression. I can’t live without my babies, I can’t survive this constant worry. I’m beginning to associate hope only with pain and disappointment. It doesn’t feel safe to hope anymore – I think it only invites heartbreak. After all, if I don’t hope, at least I won’t be surprised when my worst fears are proven to be real.

It may be a hard-to-swallow pill, but anything and everything could happen. As a writer, I hope my readers would understand if my works could be seen as dark, sad, and lonely. I will do my best to give you the most bizarre ending you could think of. (It doesn't mean I won't give you happy endings, though. I am open to any kind of endings, and I hope you are, too.)
