The Verdant Hollow’s core hums beneath my feet, a subterranean chamber where golden-green energy threads converge into a pulsing nexus, the sanctuary’s heart. The air is thick with primal magic, stirring my crescent mark into a steady burn. I move cautiously, my new sight scanning for the keystone the mysterious lunar-eyed figure warned me about—a relic Voren planted to drain the Hollow’s wards. The whisper from the Lunar Well chamber, The bridge will break, echoes in my mind, urging me forward despite the gnawing suspicion that I’m walking into a trap.

Its eyes burned like molten obsidian. The ritual ended with a sound like a crack of thunder inside the earth. Kane opened his eyes, and for a heartbeat, I didn’t recognize him. His gaze was still his… but rimmed with shadow. His skin seemed to drink in the light. Then the Hollow came. It tore itself from the fissure, massive and terrible, a shape of shifting stone and shadow bound together by a core of blinding hunger. Its eyes, that’s if they could be called that locked on me, and I felt its intent as clearly as if it had spoken: I was prey.

He kissed her forehead gently, offering a silent promise of protection, of love. Meanwhile, Kane and Bree had ventured to investigate the Hollow Fang relic. The moment they laid eyes on it, they saw that it was no longer the impenetrable object it had once been. It was fully cracked now, split cleanly in two. The fissure ran from top to bottom, and the relic no longer hummed with the power it once did. Something was wrong. And yet, it wasn’t just the relic that had changed.

He didn't need to transform fully; he simply let the silver light bleed into his fingertips, extending his claws just enough to catch the moonlight. One of the Hollow-Men turned, his eyeless face tilting toward the ridge. Before he could let out a warning hum, Thorne was on him. It wasn't a fight; it was an extraction. Thorne drove his silver-etched hand into the mage’s chest, disrupting the delicate Aether-vacuum that kept the creature alive. With a sound like a punctured lung, the Hollow-Man dissolved into a pile of grey ash and tattered robes. "Contact!" the second mage shrieked, his voice a grating, high-frequency blast.

I shout, yanking free, chains snapping, my hands glowing hot, burning the altar’s edge. Jude stumbles up, blood dripping, shadows lashing at Selene’s swarm. “Raymond, hit her!” he yells, voice raw, shoving a Hollowkin back, its claws missing my arm by an inch. I focus, light pouring out, bright as hell, burning through the Hollowkin, their screams echoing as they turn to ash. Selene’s eyes go wide, her crown sparking, shadows weakening. “You’re nothing!” she snarls, lunging, shadows aimed at my chest.

Every instinct inside me screamed. It moved impossibly fast. Kael shoved me aside just as the creature lunged, a blade of black energy slashing through the space where my throat had been seconds earlier. I hit the ground hard, pain exploding through my shoulder. Kael drew a dagger from beneath his cloak, meeting the creature head-on. Steel clashed against shadow. The sound rang through the forest. “What is that thing?!” I shouted. Kael ducked another strike. “A Hollow.” “A what?!” “They hunt Guardians.”

"They've breached the outer walls. Rogues loyal to Sharona. And something else... creatures I've never seen before. Not wolves. Not witches. Something like a dried up bones that keeps standing. Something that can't be killed." I curse under my breath. "They've unleashed the Hollowborn..." "The what?" Alessia asks, her heart pounding. I explain. "The Hollowborn is the summoning of the dead. They are more like, dead soldiers. They feel nothing. And cannot be defeated, unless the one who controls them is..." "No time!" Darren cuts in. "We need you, Alessia. The frontlines are falling. You have any pent up powers? This is the time to unleash it. It's our only hope now."

One. Two... Three... Four... Five... Six... The mountain trembled. A deep voice echoed once more. "Final authorization acknowledged." The doors slowly began to part. Only a few inches. Just enough for darkness to seep through. Within that darkness... Golden eyes opened. Orion. The Hollow King. He stepped into the narrow opening, no longer a monster of smoke, but the man Raven had seen in her memories. Tall. Strong. Wearing ancient black armor. There was sadness in his eyes.

He mutters something ancient under his breath and in an instant, the Hollowborns drop whatever they’re holding, shrieking with excitement as they rush outside. The scent of fear and pain lures them to the glowing feather. They exchange glances, expecting to find prey or wolves consumed by terror. Instead, they find only the feather, glowing with a false promise. Hidden behind a tree, Kai narrows his eyes, focusing. He whispers again. Suddenly, the Hollowborns turn on each other, and they begin to snarl, tearing and devouring each other. “Let’s go!” Kai barks, and they sprint back to the pack house.
