Yara suddenly choked on the onion ring that had just entered her throat. Adam looked at the empty glass in front of Yara, then handed her the glass containing half of his vanilla latte. Without hesitation, Yara drank it. Her throat was burning, and there was no way she could ignore it in the name of her pride. "I can tell my aunt that we are not suitable for dating, and in the end we decided to be friends." Yara smiled mischievously, what kind of friend had never communicated, what kind of friend threw curses at his best friend.

a voice called from the doorway. I didn't flinch. I shouldn't have. I stood up slowly, turning to see young Officer Henderson standing there, his face the color of spoiled milk. He was new, still possessed of that fragile idealism that this job usually crushed within six months. "Yes, Henderson?" I asked, my voice as cool as the morgue slabs I frequented. "The neighbors... they heard a struggle around midnight. They said the screaming stopped abruptly. We’ve got a perimeter, but we haven't found the weapon yet."

She stepped outside and found Henry waiting, a small package in his hands. “What’s that?” she asked. He smiled. “I think you should see for yourself.” He handed it to her. Inside were pine tarts. “Oh…” Sara smiled genuinely this time. Unlike Cara, she actually loved them. “Thank you,” she said softly. “These will help me a lot.” Henry nodded. “I have a class now. I’ll see you later.” He waved and walked off. Sara turned to head back inside. Flash. She froze. Another flash.

Those who had once fawned upon them turned away as fast as they could. When word spread, the industry snickered. Aron didn’t end it. He wanted them to watch it collapse. He had the news taken to the basement—where Susan was kept. Hearing of the ruin, Henry fainted. Lisa sagged to her knees. Half a lifetime’s work turned to grit. Susan only thought of herself. When she saw Aron, tears sprang. She crawled on her knees. “Aron, please let me out. I know I was wrong. I’m really terrified—bugs, rats— I can’t sleep.”

(Lily’s POV). "Anyway, Susan is paralyzed now. She can't move for life." The words sliced through the air like a blade, leaving me frozen in place. My hand shot up to cover my lips, disbelief flashing through me. Henry’s voice was harsh, almost accusatory, and his piercing gaze bore into me, demanding answers I wasn’t ready to give. I stumbled for words, my voice weak. “Susan… She’s… what?” Henry’s fists clenched at his sides, his expression stormy.

By the time they got to Henry’s house, it was mid- morning. Henry was surprised to see him but agreed to take him to town. Sue’s warning had proven true. His suit was crumpled up so he had to go to the backdoor of his house and change. Horses were dirty animals. He shuddered as he contemplated riding Emma Lou and trying to rope cattle. He went to the restaurant and got caviar, crackers and a bucket of ice to keep the caviar fresh. When he returned to Henry’s house, Sue was having a good conversation with Henry’s wife and children. He marveled that the same woman who could barge into a bank and disrupt business or run through a church right before a wedding and threaten the poor seams

Then, she got down on her hands and knees and shoved them one by one through the crack of my door, trying to cover up the smell of death. The white mothballs rolled into the room and stopped beside my corpse. "Mom, that's not the smell of garbage. That's the smell of your daughter rotting." Did she not suspect anything at all? If she just opened the door and looked, just once, she would finally see. However, she did not. Mom dusted off her hands, looking pleased with herself. Just then, the delivery guy downstairs shouted up, "Layla! You've got mail!" Mom went down to get it and came back with a thick envelope stamped with the City Culinary Association’s logo.

With the sudden question, Bob accidentally bit his paws while grooming them and stiffened. “Just heard, don’t come near him, He looks unacceptable and unworthy” Suyi choked on the pumpkin seeds she was munching for quite a while and looked at Bob with a surprised face. After checking if the man had meant what he said, Suyi lightly chuckled and gently or somewhat forcefully knocked his head with her small fist while slowly shaking her head from side to side.
