SWEET SPOT
It was shaky, just like last time, but I climbed anyway, step by careful step, until I reached his window.
The moment I got close, he reached out and helped pull me inside. I climbed inside, a little clumsy but determined. The moment both my feet touched the floor, he pulled me into his arms without a word.
I hugged him back tightly, burying my face in his chest. He smelled like hospital soap and his usual cologne. I could feel the bandage under his shirt when my hand brushed his side.
“You’re okay…” I whispered, my voice cracking. “You’re really okay.”
