Her hands trembled as she wiped at her tears, stepping back like I’d physically shoved her. “So, what? You’re just going to walk away? Again?”
I hesitated, struggling to find the right words. My jaw tightened. “I’m not walking away,” I said at last. “I’m stepping back. I need space. We both do.”
“Space?” Her voice pitched higher, laced with incredulity. “That’s your solution? To run away like a coward instead of facing our problems?”
