Two hundred and eighty-seven pages of pain, love, anger, redemption, and desire transformed into words. It wasn’t exactly her story, but it was hers. Every scene carried fragments of her soul—the unwanted touches, her mother’s complicit silence, the escapes, the cruise, the silk ropes, the fear, and the healing.

They had turned their backs on me, with joined hands. My eyes fluttered open, I sat up quickly, and I saw a lady in a gold glistening gown, she had a tight smile on her face.
