Life couldn’t have been better. Despite that, I couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of the Duttons were up to. I knew that as long as they didn’t find a body, they wouldn’t declare a death. This led to endless speculation in society about whether the two of us were truly dead. Rumors and gossip spread everywhere, but I remained unmoved. Every day, I soaked up the sun, watched handsome men by the sea, and lived a life of pure indulgence. After half a year, though, I started to get a little bored.

"If you didn’t love her, why did you give birth to her in the first place! "Was it just to ignore her, wrong her, and then, the moment she left, rush to give everything that belonged to her to the person who schemed against her again and again?" Bella’s face drained of color. She froze in place, then after a long pause, began to sob softly. "Adrian… how can you say that about me…" "Shut up!" Adrian cut her off sharply. He took out a worn leather diary and a USB drive and slammed them onto the coffee table. "Everything on this USB drive is your precious Bella’s handiwork!"

Kier said, pushing his glasses up with a worried frown. He handed me a report. "As I mentioned before, if we force the chip to operate beyond its extended lifespan, it will cause irreparable neural damage to Mr. Faust." He expected me to panic. He still believed I was the same woman who would trade her soul to the Devil to save Alan's life. How quaint. I had changed. "I suppose we'll see what happens," I said, closing the report. My tone caught him off guard. "Uh, listen. I have a backup solution to—"

I stop in my tracks, tipping my head a bit to the side to read the spine of the book that caught my eyes. ‘Function’. I raise my brow. I pluck it out from its shelf, turning it back to read the summary. ‘Warning: Do not read.’ Why would anyone put this book, write it and say, “Do Not Read”? That is just pure stupid, I mean, the author could have just placed it in his desk, let it dust over and never publish it if a ‘Do Not Read’ note was written in the back of the book. I shook my head in utter disbelief and shrugged it off and turned to the first page. There was another note, ‘You have been warned.’

‘I am now reading the second book you sent me, your favorite, Tuesday with Morrie by Mich Albom. Irina: ‘Oh yeah, that’s one of the best.’ I said and lifted a fork to my mouth. ‘Learn from it by heart, the book tells you about time and death and other things in between. It’ll tell you simple and priceless things in life,’ I added. ‘It goes like, we live not just to make a living but to really live life, and have no regrets when death comes to us,’ I said and put down the fork to the small white porcelain plate. ‘Morrie teaches us to love and be human.’

At one point there will be some discussion on suicide and a time a character feels they'd rather die, so if you're sensitive to the subject of death or a feeling of hopelessness, parts of the story could be hard for you to read.
