Chapter 2

Penulis: Noorie
The fact that everyone was busy congratulating Edward, made it easier for me to sneak out quietly.

A taxi was already waiting to take me to the Mortal zone.

My suitcases felt lighter than they ever had, the weight of ten years of pathetic devotion had been burned away with that letter.

But as I rounded the corner near the grand staircase, the air grew thick with the cloying scent of lilies and expensive perfume I knew who wore them.

"Going somewhere, Sonya?"

The voice was like a whip. I froze. Edward stood there, his high-collared formal coat draped perfectly over his shoulders. Tucked under his arm was Beth. In this light, she looked like a porcelain doll—pale, fragile, and utterly lethal.

"I thought I made myself clear in the text," Edward sneered, his eyes dropping to the luggage in my hands. "I told you to stay in your room. I didn't say you could drag your filth through the main hall while my guests are still here."

"I'm following your instructions, Edward," I said, my voice steady, devoid of the desperate tremor that used to define me. "You said sharing a roof with me was humiliating. I’m simply removing the humiliation."

A flicker of something like surprise passed through Edward's eyes. But, before he could speak, Beth walked up, saying in a honey-laced tone, "Sonya, why must you make everything difficult for Edward?"

"Leaving his house and then go back to his parents to be a crybaby, only to make his relationship with his parents worst than it already is?"

"Why can't you leave this family in peace?"

She stepped forward, her silk dress rustling like a snake in the grass. "Or is this your new tactic? Do you think if you pretend to leave, Edward will suddenly realize he can't live without his shadow?"

"It’s pathetic," Edward added, his lip curling. "You’ve chased me for a decade. We all know those bags are probably filled with my old shirts you’ve stolen. Drop the act, Sonya. Go back to your room, lock the door, and stay there until I decide what to do with you."

Edward's words cut deep through my heart. He was right. I was like that in the past, collecting trash and garbages that Edward used in his daily necessities like they were treasures, a kind of devotion I believed that time.

But, not anymore.

"It's not an act," I said, meeting his gaze. For the first time, I didn't flinch. "I'm leaving. Permanently. You can have the house, the title, and the silence you've always asked for."

I tried to move past them, but Beth blocked my path. Her eyes flashed with a cruel spark. But, her voice was laced with feign concern,

"I can't let you go and create misunderstandings between Edward and his parents. I don't want him disturbed because of you, Sonya." Beth hissed. She reached out, her sharp, manicured nails digging into my forearm, trying to snatch my suitcase.

"Let go, Beth," I warned.

"Make me, you low-born—" she hissed.

As I jerked my arm back to reclaim my luggage, Beth’s eyes widened. With the calculated move in her mind, she didn't fight for balance. Instead, she let her grip loosen and threw herself backward.

She hit the marble floor with a sickening thud, her silk gown billowing around her like a broken flower.

"Beth!" Edward roared.

He was at her side in a blur of motion, gathering her into his arms. Beth let out a small, pained whimper, clutching her ankle, her eyes brimming with unshed, manipulative tears.

"My ankle... Edward, it hurts," she sobbed, burying her face in his chest. "I just wanted to tell her not to be impulsive... why did she push me so hard?"

Caspian’s confession didn't just break the ice in my heart—it shattered the very foundations of my reality. He hadn't just found me in this life. He had hunted through the corridors of time to find the version of me that survived."You came back for me," I whispered, my voice trembling against his lips."I watched you die in your previous lifetime," Caspian murmured, his eyes reflecting a thousand years of starlight and sorrow. "I was too late then. I arrived at the Lightwood estate to find a pyre where a queen should have been. I promised the void then that if the universe had a crack, I would find it. I would find you.""Before I burnt down the whole foundation of Lightwoods, fed your murderer to the hungry wolves." He added.I reached up, my fingers tangling in his dark hair. The rumours about the exile prince was wrong. He did not live in coffins because he was turning weak, but because he was simply waiting for his princess. He did not want to explore the beauty of the earth alon

In the weeks that followed, the high society of the vampire clans was set ablaze. The headlines were relentless. The High Lord of the Lightwood Clan, once the most sought-after bachelor in the territories, was becoming a public laughingstock. While I was seen at the opera and private galas draped in Caspian’s obsidian silk—the "Shadow King" himself standing as my silent, lethal vanguard—Edward was spiraling.Beth's pregnancy news stained his whole lineage. Impregnating a woman without a wed-lock was a taboo in their clan. Even the elders and higher officials who supported him before turned against him.Victor Lightwood, furious at the stain on their reputation, had stripped Edward of his executive powers over the clan’s issues. And then came the "miscarriage" scandal that completely backfired Beth resulting her breakup with Edward. Rumors began to circulate that the physician had been bribed by Beth to fake the pregnancy to trap Edward. She wasn't pregnant and the miscarriage was also

"We had never been in relationship, Edward. Then how can me seeing other man be considered as cheating?""You are my blood bound." He spat quickly."You are hypocrite jerk, Edward." I blurted out. Now he wants me to bound me with our bond. What kind of bound he was talking about, a bond in which he could freely pester other woman and impregnate her while me being protected by other man considered cheating? He had annoyed me at the level of not wanting to see or talk to him anymore. His whole presence in my life only disgusted me."You chose Beth over me, Edward. Now, be happy with her and stop contacting me." I said, intending to hang up.But, he added, his voice indifferent. "Beth lost her child. She was hurt seeing me kiss you and the trauma-""Announcing pregnancy and miscarriage the same day, what a coincidence to happen just when you wanted me back, isn't it?" I couldn't help laughing in sarcasm."What do you mean?" He asked."Nothing that you would want to listen, let alone beli

Victor and Amelia left after Edward after promising me that they would teach him a lesson for misbehaving with me and ask him to apologise me.But, I no longer cared. I did not want him to apologise to me, not even want to see him. I was simply done with him.I could not believe how disgusting a man could be. All of a sudden, he wanted me back the same woman he felt disgusted with, not because he realised my worth after loosing me, but because he felt his ego was hurt after seeing me with someone else.At the same time, he did not want to part ways with Beth. The way he avoided me and rushed to carry her, said it all.The thought of being in love with such a man for more than ten years just disgusted me.I took a long breathe before I made my ways out of Edward's house. However, before I could take a step out, two muscular men with broad shoulder held my hands from either side."Lord Edward has not allowed you to leave." They said, "You can't leave without his permission."Blood ran co

Before I could leave the house, my hands were gripped by a strong force and I was pulled back. Edward stood behind me, staring me with a pair of eyes that whispered jealousy and hurt."You think a few words and a nod to my parents dissolves what we are?" he hissed, his voice dropping to a dangerous, guttural vibration. "You belong to the Lightwood name. You belong to me. I haven’t allowed you to step a foot outside these grounds, let alone leave the clan.""Let go, Edward," I said, my voice devoid of the Tremor he was hunting for. "You're embarrassing yourself in front of your parents.""I am the High Lord!" he roared, the sound echoing off the vaulted ceiling. Victor stepped forward to intervene, but Edward threw up a hand, a surge of dark, oppressive aura filling the room. "She is my blood-bound! Whether she stays in my bed or a cellar, she stays where I put her!"He pulled me flush against his chest. The smell of him—once a scent that brought me comfort—now smelled like decaying eg

"Sonya, dear... you’re upset," Amelia whispered, her voice cracking. "You don’t mean that. The blood-bond is not something you can simply discard. It is destiny.""If our bond was Destiny, you didn't have to force Edward, Aunt Amelia," I said, my voice steady. "I’m done. I don't want Edward. I don't want this bond. And I certainly don't want this house."Victor’s brow furrowed, his regal face hardening. "Is it because of that girl? If it is, Sonya, I will exile Beth from the Lightwood territories tonight. I will not have a vampire from other clan ruin our family.""No," I replied, and for the first time, a small, tired smile touched my lips. "Don't exile her. Let him have her. Let him bond with her, marry her, and give her all the titles he was entitled to give me. I am officially releasing him. From this moment on, Edward Lightwood is nothing more to me than a memory I’d rather forget.""You release me?"The voice boomed from the staircase, dripping with a mixture of disbelief and let
