"She’s here to work, not to give a eulogy. We have a play to mount in forty-eight hours."
The crowd dispersed reluctantly, their whispers following me like a tailwind as Sarah led me toward the dressing rooms.
"Go on," Sarah said, pointing to the door labeled with my name. "Change into the Act One costume. The director wants a full run-through of the second half by noon. You okay?"
"I'm fine," I lied, the word tasting like ash in my mouth.
"Are you sure?" The male actor who is the male lead in the play, Jefferson, stepped into the room, looking at me while smiling, "Are you sure you're?”
