I sat at the table, watching the food grow cold, much like my heart. Today was my birthday. It was also Leslie Buck's birthday—Katherine White's childhood sweetheart. I unlocked my phone and opened Leslie's social media page. As expected, a new post awaited me. "Grateful to have you by my side for every birthday. Let's keep our promise to celebrate every one of them together in the future!" The photo showed two hands forming a heart in front of a cake. One of them was Katherine's. I could tell from the bracelet she wore. It was the one I had given her. I gave the post a like, then set my phone aside. Without hesitation, I dumped the dishes Katherine liked into the trash and went out to a restaurant to order the food I liked, celebrating my birthday alone. From now on, I would make sure to enjoy every birthday of mine.

My neighbors across the hall had a nasty habit of stealing. This included my food deliveries, my shoes from the cabinet, and even my clothes drying on the rooftop. Nothing was safe from them. A muscular man with HIV, an elderly woman with syphilis, and a young man with severe mental health issues became their new neighbors. The thieves could not handle it and begged the landlord to evict them. However, the joke was on them. My family owned the entire building. If anyone was leaving, it certainly was not me.

Unfortunately, there will always be people who are born voracious and greedy, which disrupted the once peaceful place and turned it into a warzone similar to the surface they had escaped from. The wolves now face the challenge of restoring peace and avoiding war once again.

Once I paid off my debt, I would no longer need such a family.

My mother kept a red notebook recording all of my sister's favourite things. She had a blue notebook for me too. When my mother was hospitalized, I took leaves from work to take care of her. My sister had never shown up. However, my mother recorded in the blue notebook, '15th March, I am not well and am hospitalized. Celine owed me 450 dollars for food allowance. I knew that was not a notebook about my favourite things, but a notebook of all of my expenses. Behind the closed doors, Mother said to Father, "Celine is an evil person. She always likes to compete with her sister. We must take a chance to steal all her money and leave with Belle. Later when we are old, we will ask her to take care of us. I think we should just ask her to pay us back all the money we spent on her that I have recorded in this notebook. I was devastated at that moment.

He would go home empty handed with nothing but a bruised face and a few broken bones and swollen eyes. When he’s not stealing fruits he’s either hunting for game or mushroom. On a faithful day when he came home to his cave after a sunny day of getting nothing, he noticed someone was in his cave and after having a short squabble with the stranger—as usual Liam is good at picking fights but rarely wins any. The strange figure introduces himself as Seth, Liam’s Uncle. Liam recognised his face from the picture his mother would always look at if she missed home. Seth is Liam’s mother’s baby brother. That day is the first day Liam is meeting him or any of his relatives. Seth has been looking for him after he heard his sister died, he was close to giving up when he finally stumbles on a cave to rest and tend to his wounds only for him to meet his nephew living like a caveman. He takes him home to the Shadow Realm—is the home of people with the ability to control Shadows, Liam’s father was from there but he deserted the place.
