Their skin was the color of unpolished marble, and their veins were not blue or red, but a faint, pulsing silver that matched the glow of the crystalline neurons on the ceiling. ​Killian shifted his weight, his golden eyes narrowing as he tracked the first of the grey-eyed men stepping out of his pod. I could see the outline of a body suspended in a containment tank similar to the ones Julian used, but the corruption had progressed so far that almost nothing human remained. It was a laboratory, but it looked more like a slaughterhouse. Rows of glass cylinders lined the walls, each one filled with a pale green preservative fluid. Inside the cylinders were not wolves, but human limbs, cybernetic components, and glowing blue core processors that looked like mechanical hearts. In the center of the room was a massive, circular glass enclosure, surrounded by a forest of monitors and thick, black cables that ran directly into the ceiling. Inside the glass enclosure, suspended by heavy iron chains attached to his wrists, was Elias.

Gross! “Nikolai, where are you?” I could sense him to be close by. It was as if I could feel his emotion. He was in pain, he was hurting.. I looked around but he was nowhere at sight. “Nikolai!” It was then I saw a woman that looked like Gloria, that b*tch walked past me. I followed her from behind and that was when I saw Nikolai in his Human form. He had a long metal rod sticking on his back.

Steam vented between each beat in sharp bursts—scalding, cutting through the air with a high-pitched shriek. They emerged into the twilight of the Palace District. Ten feet tall. Broad as a tank. Plated in dull Barzil-steel that sucked the light out of the air. They didn't have faces. They had sensory strips—flat, dead red light that cast a bloody shimmer over the marble. "Golems," Wolfy whispered over the comms. The sound was a dry rasp in my ear. I felt the sweat on my neck turn cold. "Automated heavy infantry. Pre-Fracture design. Upgraded with Citadel tech."

The glass was fogged with condensation, but Aurora could see the shapes ,small, fetal, but it looked wrong to her. Or the horror version of one. A long room stretched out before us, lit by harsh overhead strips flickering in and out. Metal catwalks crisscrossed above concrete floors. Along one side, massive cylindrical tanks made of reinforced glass rose from floor to ceiling, filled with viscous neon fluid that cast the whole space in an eerie, chemical glow. Bodies floated in them. Not drones. Not all humans, either. Some looked like distorted player models, their limbs too long, or joints set at odd angles. Others were half‑machine, metal plating fused to flesh.

a voice said from the shadows behind the Captain's chair. A figure stepped out. It was a woman, encased in armor that pulsed with the same "Galactic-Source" light as the ship. She looked exactly like Elara, but her hair was silver, and her eyes were a cold, calculated Violet. "Meet the Alpha-Prime 2.0," the woman said, raising a hand that crackled with deletion-energy. "The 'Recalled' Elara was just the template. I am the Final-Product." The woman snapped her fingers, and the floor vanished, dropping the pack into a Sub-Routine Abyss where the laws of hockey, wolves, and physics no longer applied.

I screamed, my whole body jerking back, but Papa’s hand clamped down on my arm, steady, unyielding. “Relax, Eleanor,” he said, calm as stone. “The glass is reinforced. He can’t break through.” But I wasn’t reassured. Because I saw its face. I saw its eyes pressed against the glass—eyes that should’ve belonged to a man. Eyes that once might’ve held hope, laughter, fear. Now they were void. Hollow. Stripped of anything human. What looked back at me wasn’t a soul; it was something demonic. And they had done this.

The Guard. Zara turned in time to see the shape of the beast towering in the doorway from which they had just emerged. It was enormous, nearly twice as big as a man, with a body armoured with crystalline, dark plating that glinted in the low light. Its movements were robotic and deliberate, and its eyes radiated an odd crimson light. Zara could feel the pressure rising in her chest, as if the air itself were being drawn out of her lungs, while the air around it sparked with energy. Kael stated in a low, nearly dejected voice, "It won't let us go."
