Desperation clawed at my chest, and I reached for my phone, dialing the one person I thought might understand.
“Mom, I… I don’t know what to do,” I whispered when she answered. “He’s so angry all the time, and no matter what I do, it’s never enough.”
There was a pause on the other end of the line before her voice came through, cold and detached, as if she’d been expecting this call but couldn’t be bothered to care.
