So deep inside, waiting to be released. "You're here! You are Evolet Zephyrine! I felt it! I felt your power!" I knew she felt it too, by the way she looked at me. "Look!" The King said, pointing at the book. The purple light was there no more, but instead, five signs were now visible. I could recognise four of them. It was Air, Water, Fire and Earth. But what's the fifth one stand for? I open the book, only to see letters appearing on its empty pages.

I could feel them. I pressed myself back into the corner of the bed, fists clutching the thin blanket like it could protect me from what I knew was coming. Pain. Obedience. Silence. I reached for my name—something to anchor me—but there was nothing. Just a number. Three-Seven. That's what they called me. What they screamed through the speakers. What they burned into my bones. I didn't know how I got here. I didn't know if this was another test. Another lie.

The wind whipped off the harbor, salt stinging her skin. A sister? A second daughter? She looked again at the name scrawled across the final page: “Scarlett I. Whitmore”. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back in the shadows, another figure watched from behind a shipping crate: eyes narrowed, breath held. A whisper crackled over a hidden earpiece. “She knows now. Initiate Phase Four”. The watcher vanished into the mist. And the war, once buried beneath boardrooms and birthrights, was about to rise again.

“Do you hear me? Not. Close.” “Matthew, you’re not helping,” Liam snapped, nudging him aside. He turned back to Mia, his voice softening. “It’s okay to be scared, Mia, but you don’t have to carry this alone. We’ve got you.” Aiden stepped in, his arm sliding around her waist as if it was the most natural thing in the world. “You’ve got four of us,” he said with a smirk. “We’re not exactly easy to mess with.” Mia let out a shaky laugh, though it was more from disbelief than amusement. “Four of you? That’s supposed to make me feel better? You’re all a handful on your own.”

I cannot live without them. Alpha Hunter stirs beside me, and I turn to face him. I trace the outlines of his face with my finger. His defined jaw and sharp cheekbones. I still find it hard to believe that I have this handsome, loyal, and caring man by my side. I have four of them—okay, minus Killian because I don’t see him filling out any of those qualities, but he’s cool in his own way. I snort. What am I saying? The man is barely managing to tolerate me.

Pendergarish has a very serious look on her face, and though I want to laugh, I think she is serious. “I’m not very good at math,” I begin, “but… are you telling me… I’ll be having… f-f-four babies?” “That’s right,” she says. “Four babies.” I feel all of the color drain out of my face. “Dr. Pencilcase,” I say, “is that because I had sex with four men? Are they each a different Alpha’s baby?” That makes everyone erupt in laughter, and I feel like an idiot.

His face goes grim, and he motions for me to come closer. "There's at least four of them in there," he whispers. "And they're armed." My heart sinks. Four against two doesn’t sound like great odds, especially if they are armed. But I can't just give up. Not when Nora's life is on the line. "We have to take them out," I whisper back. "How?" Brynn whispers. Marlow cracks his knuckles. "Easy. I'll shift and take care of them." I give him a hard look. "I'm glad you figured out what your powers are, but let's be reasonable. You can't take them all on."
