“I want you honest.” She turned to Vow again. “And what happens if the Crown lies?” There was a beat of silence. Then—for the first and last time—Triarch Vow spoke. “If the Crown lies,” the voice rasped through the hood, genderless and sharp as glass, “then the city burns.” Later, in a room without screens, without files, without exits—he handed her a coat. Black. Fitted. Cut like armor. “You’re inside now,” Domenik said. “You dress like it.”

Liam's Pov London had hardened me. The late nights buried in economics, the endless lectures about mergers and acquisitions, the luxury parties where men twice my age shook my hand with fake smiles—it had all left a mark. But when I had finally returned, the city no longer felt the same. I wasn’t just Liam Brooks anymore. I'm now the heir to my father’s empire, the man who would carry the Crownwell & Brooks name into a new dynasty. But of course, Father wouldn’t hand me the crown so easily.

“I call upon to open your doors, a quarter of my soul becomes yours …” Seconds after, a triangular mark glowed brightly at the center of his chest, then Kael slammed his hand against the ground. "Ice Death!" The ground trembled, causing the bandits to slow down. They glanced around them, wondering what was about to happen. Suddenly, spikes of ice sprouted from the ground, more and more they expanded, impaling every bandit surrounding Kael. Their loud, painful cries followed as all of them, one by one, were pierced by the ice spikes growing from the ground.

All I hear is, "By the power vested upon me, you will become the queen of Evergreen, from today until forever!" A maid removes my crown and my father stands up. He walks next to the high priest. The priest takes a few steps back and my father takes the queen's crown. Gently, he crowns me with it and says, "I am so proud of you!" I force a smile and curtsy as father nods and goes back into his place. I face the crowd once and for all. The high priest announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Children, world-- help me welcome the new Queen of Evergreen, Aurora Wintershade!"

Only enough to show uncertainty but not enough to show fear. “We still control the narrative,” Marcus said, and he could hear the desperation creeping into his voice now, could feel his grip on the situation slipping like sand through clenched fists. “The people still believe in moral corruption. They still believe that the crown has been compromised by degeneracy. All we need is...”

“Who was it?” Isla asked, her voice sharp with panic as she stood just inside the motel room, her pulse still racing from the knock. Chad didn’t answer immediately. He was standing in the doorway, staring down at the ground like something had rooted him there. “Chad?” “There’s a crow out here,” he said finally, his voice quieter now, tighter. “Dead. And there’s something tied around its leg.” Isla went cold. “What the fuck?”

Not very intimidating, I suppose, but it’ll work for now. It appears my timing was off by a stretch. “EWWWWWWW- what the hell?” I screech, beating off the heavy thing that just plopped onto my chest. I took too long thinking about what to do. “Bitch, do you want to die?” I look before me and no ones’ there. I slowly turn my head towards the ground, realizing the thing I just whacked was an irritated looking- “-... crow.”

Her words clawed at me, each one lodging itself into the cracks already splitting me apart. “I know what I am,” I snarled, my voice loud and desperate to drown her out. “I’m a lycan, a wolf blood. That’s all I’ve ever been, and you’re just…something else. something unreal, something wrong that apparently needs to go.” I steadied myself using the ground, gently rising to stand.

To enter such a secret auction, you need a stamp of their sigil - a crow. Crows are said to be known for their clairvoyance and foresight. But the crow being used in the Order has a deeper meaning. Because they are considered wise, they are also known to bring death to your doorstep. That is why The Order is using this magnificent bird to spread the idea that although the crow would lead you to heaven upon death, this only masks their true ideal - power.

Eden’s POV My jaw dropped open. The crow continued to circle high above. Caw. Caw. It screeched at us in a frantic, frenzied way. “Did you just say…sister?” I whispered back to Beta Brighton. Unlike the rest of us, he was looking up at the crow with admiration. Crows have never been my favorite bird. They’re scavengers and they’re smart. A group of crows is called a ‘murder’. I always found that disturbing. But Beta Brighton gripped my arm. “Please,” he said under his breath.
