I grabbed the deed and booked the next flight to Crescent City. They didn't understand why I wanted to buy property there, but in my previous life, this city was the only place on Earth untouched by the extreme heat. I bought a two-story villa with 10,000 square feet of space. It came with an underground parking garage. When the apocalypse came, that garage would be the perfect natural shelter.
