I Knew The Bride Novels & Stories

I sensed that the tension was rising between us like a storm about to erupt. She was waiting to ask her next question, too excited to. "But who is she?" Layla asked, her tone barely audible above a whisper but it was obvious that she was happy. The answer caught in my throat as I glanced at her. Even though I had prepared myself for this moment, I wasn't sure if I was ready to say it now . I didn't know what to say and I stared at the glass in my hand. But I had to. "You know who the bride is." I said in a chilly tone .

My father had finally sat down. I had grown up with most of these people. I had eaten Thanksgiving with their mothers. I had been a bridesmaid for two of them. They were watching me marry a man none of them had been told to expect, in a venue I'd picked for someone else, in a dress I had stood in for a final fitting twelve hours earlier while my fiancé was in another room with another woman. I felt the weight of all that. I let it pass through me. When Father Paolo pronounced us married, I expected to feel something break open inside me. I didn't. I felt the opposite. Something closed.

Groom: Esquire Michale Ambruso Bride: Ivanka Marie Harris The blood drained from his face. The announcement slipped from Jared's hands and fluttered to the ground. Ivanka had chosen freedom and Michael.

His voice was a low, smooth rumble. “Ok?” And just as he predicted, three different people did act like she was their long lost best friend! “How did you know that'll happen?!” I turned, finding myself completely thrilled by his brilliant sense of judgement, and unintentionally brushed the side of my face with his. He turns to look at me in return. My heart skipped a beat, then quickened. “ Because almost everyone knows more than a person here, except for you. I bet a kiss you only know either the bride or the groom seeing that you have an invitation. So who is it, bride or groom?”

Right now, I think I'm the happiest bride ever. As I continued to primp and prepare, I noticed the details of the wedding unfolding before me. The venue was a beautiful garden, filled with blooming flowers and towering trees. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow over everything. I saw myself walking down the aisle, arm in arm with my father. He was looking so dashing; he seemed very happy with me, as Earnest waited for me at the altar. His eyes locked onto mine, filled with adoration and love. I saw the smile on his face, the joy in his eyes, and my heart skipped a beat.

“To loyalty. And to knowing exactly what you want—and taking it.” The crowd clapped. I kept swallowing. And I never looked more like a bride in my life.

Under everyone's gaze, Victor held Anna's hand and walked to the center of the stage. The wedding dress, the roses, the church, and Victor himself—it was all exactly as I had once imagined. Except the woman beside him wasn't me. It was Anna. At Victor's request, the officiant stepped aside. Victor was visibly emotional. He insisted on presiding over his own wedding.

Who are you to me? Something shifted in his eyes. For a moment, composure gave way to something raw. “You are Bliss,” he said firmly. “My bride.” The word struck like cold water. Bride. Her lips parted, but no sound came. Her head shook, the denial instinctive, though she could not remember enough to be certain. Still, the thought of being someone’s bride, of belonging to a man she could not recall, made her chest tighten with dread. “You do not remember,” he said quietly, his jaw tense. “It will return. Until then, I will keep you safe.”

My smile didn't last long as I called my bride's name, "...Kealey?" The entire crowd stood, cheered, clapped, screamed. Why the fuck was my bride Kealey and not Layla?!
