THE WRONG BROTHER
Don't do anything that might break this fragile progress we've made.
"I miss you," I say instead, the words escaping before I can stop them. "I know we're friends now, and I'm grateful for that. But Charlotte, I miss you. Miss us. Miss the way things were before.
"I miss you too." Her voice is barely a whisper.
"Take all the time you need." I mean it, even though every cell in my body wants to pull her close and never let go. "I'll be here."
"I know you will." She smiles sadly. "That's what you keep proving. Over and over. That you're here, that you're constant, that you're not going anywhere."
