I cut in gently, lifting the book in my lap, “I’d like to get back to my story. I’m just at a very interesting page.” I didn’t look up again. I turned a page I wasn’t reading, letting silence be my shield. A few seconds later, she left. Only when I heard the door click shut did I lower the book and exhale. My fingers trembled slightly as I gripped the arm of the chair. I stared at the door, heart pounding. That wasn’t Siora. Whoever it was… well I only know of one person that can shift, Xareth. I took deep breaths, I have to be careful.

"Before it claims you as well." The illumination surrounding her changed, shadowy tendrils creeping toward me. I recoiled, yet they pursued, their grip icy and smothering. “Dahlia, halt!” I yelled, anxiety increasing. “It isn’t me!” she shouted, her voice cracking. “It’s the Shroud!” The tendrils ensnared my legs, drawing me towards the light. Kai's voice pierced the turmoil, calling out my name, yet it felt far away, almost dream like. "Daisy, resist it!" Dahlia shrieked, her figure melting into the brightness.

"He took my life, my identity, and now he's living with my name, my degrees. How can I just let that go?" I gave his back a comforting pat and met his gaze. "In a few days, when the weird end of days rolls in, we'll make him pay." Jim gave a small nod, his skin cooling down, no longer fired by my blood. Right then, I noticed something odd, the weak Haunts that had barely any strength were suddenly frantically feasting on my leftover blood. Their once translucent bodies filled with vigor as they started to circle and swoop around me. "I've got a plan!"

Chapter One: A New Beginning Aqua’s heart raced as she walked through the imposing iron gates of Crestwood High. Another town, another school, another chance to start over—if only it were that simple. At 5'10", her presence commanded attention, but she preferred to stay unnoticed. The wind picked up, the sanctuary groaning under its weight. “You were chosen, Ava,” the figure said. “But you were not the only one touched by Selene. You are not the only heir to the truth.” “What are you talking about?” Ava demanded. The figure took a step closer. The pendant around Ava’s neck flared with light, reacting to something someone. “You carry the light,” the figure said softly. “But I carry the shadow.” And then the hood fell back and Ava gasped. The face staring back at her was her own.

“We can and will protect her from Leo Bloodstone without having to hide her.” Of course, that is when Alpha Aiden totally lost me. F&&k that nonsense. He clearly has no idea what is at stake here. Sienna adjusted the collar of her blouse as she stood in front of the small group of women seated in folding chairs. A banner hung behind her, the freshly printed letters reading: Lucia Foundation – Hope Beyond the Shadows. Natalia stood off to the side, clipboard in hand, giving her an encouraging nod. “You’ve got this,” Natalia whispered. Sienna smiled, then took a breath and stepped forward. “Thank you all for coming today. I know how hard it can be to walk into a room like this. I’ve been where you are. Caught in a world that told me silence was survival.”

I gritted through my teeth. "Holy shit. So, it's true. The shield follows you wherever you go. That's some powerful shit man." Adam says. And I growl when he doesn't answer my question. " Alright, sorry. I heard about the shield but I just didn't know that there was actually a witch powerful enough to do it. All I know about Annabelle is that she's the witch in charge. Josiah has more of them. He's something of a collector. He has vampires with unique abilities. He has witch's that can do all sorts of shit. And she is one of the most powerful ones that he has." Adam explained. "Why is he after me?" I asked.

Queen stared at him, wondering what he was doing, and she was shocked when she finally realized that there was an opening. After pushing the rug, Shawn pressed a button on the wall, and a dial pad appeared. He quickly typed in a code, and the tiles separated into two, revealing a ladder leading downwards. Queen gasped in surprise. "An underground house? Shawn, this is..." "Yes, go in, go in right now," Shawn instructed. Queen quickly descended the ladder, with Shawn following. Once inside, he closed the hatch covering the underground house, and he typed in the password on the dial pad below.

I love that he loves to cook. He carried me to the bed, propping me up with some pillows, handing me a book to read. It was one I had gotten out of the library we found yesterday. It was about the different kinds of shadows in the shadow realm. Shade is an official, apparently. Extremely strong, intelligent, and a direct descendent of the original shadow.
